Email Lost Nation Visions, Ltd.

Lost Nation Visions, Ltd. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community organization established in 2002. Its function is to aid in securing grants for community projects and to promote community goodwill through Pat Your Neighbor on the Back Awards.

Grants applied for, successfully funded, and completed
by Lost Nation Visions, Ltd.:

Landscaping the town signs

Right: Funds were raised by community organzations and a grant from Modern Woodmen of America to landscape the signs at the city's three entrances.

Improving the entryways into Lost Nation

Left: Grants from Iowa's Living Roadways were secured to improve the roadway entrances into Lost Nation. Wildflower seeds were sowed in the ditches along Western St., South Ave., and Winter St.

Iowa's Living Roadways Project

Right: Living Roadways grant funded tree planting in the large ditch along Highway 136 at the north edge of Lost Nation.

Lost Nation Cemetery Tree Replacement

Left: A grant from the Iowa DNR allowed the Lost Nation Cemetery Association to replace the old, damaged, and dying trees and shrubs in the cemetery. Students from Midland's FFA organization assisted in planting the new trees.

Downtown Awning Painting Project

Right and below: The Main Street metal awnings had become weathered over the years and needed a "facelift."

Five Lost Nation Main Street building owners consented to have the awnings over their building fronts painted.
Left and below: The building owners were asked to pick the colors that they would like to have their awnings painted. The paint was supplied free of charge by Diamond Vogel Paint Company through a grant from Paint Iowa Beautiful. The labor was supplied by Visions and local community members.
The finished products (left) made a definite improvement in the appearance of Main Street.

Community Visioning Project

Community members participated in a Community Visioning Project which assisted community organizations in planning for future improvements. A landscape architect along with two students majoring in Landscaping Architecture were on hand to prepare designs outlining these possible community improvements.

Paint Grant for Downtown Building

Left and below: A second grant from Paint Iowa Beautiful funded the paint provided free by Diamond Vogel Paint for painting a neglected building in the downtown area.

The improvement that this grant made to the downtown area is very apparent in this "after" photo.

Historic Silhouette Display

Left: The Pioneer Silhouette Display was funded through a grant from the local MWA Youth Service Clubs.

Georgia Sack, a Visions member, painted a bright mural display on the south side of the building as part of the Paint Iowa Beautiful grant.

Landscaping Gilroy Rustic Park Entrance

A grant from netins along with memorial donations funded improvements to the Gilroy Rustic Park entrance area.

Downtown flower barrel planters

A grant from the Clinton County Community Development Association funded purchase of barrels and liners which were used to hold flower planters during the summer months and small decorated Christmas trees during the winter.
