| Lost Nation Cemetery Restoration Project
The Lost Nation Cemetery Restoration Project started the last week of June 2011. Madge White and Dolores Weets walked the cemetery several times, flagging projects. To date, the Cemetery Board along with some volunteers have straightened or cleaned and/or epoxied, nearly seventy stones, plus putting 5 large broken stones in cement in forms, forming new bases, setting the cemented stones out of the form, standing them in new bases and pouring cement around them. All of these stones are in the older parts of cemetery, some of which were almost totally buried under turf and dirt.
Cement mixing was all done on site, using Darrell Paulsen’s equipment and expertise. Workers brought brushes, crowbars, spades, buckets of lime, hauled bags of cement, and jugs of water.
Board members on the crew were Bob Feuss, Madge White, Leyland Ruggeberg, and Dolores Weets. Invaluable and willing volunteers have been DARRELL PAULSEN, Connie Edleman, Mark Weets, Harold Weets, Soni Ruggeberg, and Ken Lacey.
The group has now completed their last official workday scheduled this Fall. Even though the weather is great for working now, some key muscles (Bob, Mark, & Harold) need to make a living with their combines.
We will plan to resume work next spring. The Cemetery Restoration Project has been currently funded by gifts for that purpose. Monetary support is always appreciated.
