| Iraq War veteran, Troy Yucum, is hiking 7,000 miles across America banging his drum to raise awareness to help military families in need. Troy has so far raised $125,000 of his $5 million goal. Troy, with his wife Mareike and Emmie the SuperDog by his side, took the first steps of his 16-month quest on April 17, 2010.
The three have completed the western leg of their journey, all the way from Kentucky to California, and have now walked back east into Texas. On Sunday, January 23, 2011, they stopped at the Admiral Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas, where they were welcomed by a delegation from the community. Troy delivered a very moving presentation to those gathered explaining Hiking for Heroes, the needs of military families that aren't being met, and the needs of returning war veterans. Troy's dog, Emmie, accompanied him. Emmie is certified as an Honorary Penny's From Heaven Soldier's Angel Support Dog.
